Volunteering at ASFS

ASFS volunteers make it happen. All of our wonderful PTA programs that support our school and children depend entirely on volunteers. And many hands make for light work. Please volunteer to make our school a great place for our children. There are many opportunities both during the day and outside of school hours.

Given the unprecedented times we are facing, our PTA programs and events will look very different this year. Many events will remain uncertain until we see how the pandemic develops, and we will follow APS guidelines for parent volunteers based on health and safety precautions. That said, we are very grateful for parent volunteers to help us 'go virtual' and think creatively about how to build community and work together to make this year a success for our students and families.

Please click below to indicate your volunteer interests, knowing any and all programs may be hosted virtually, be delayed, or even cancelled. Committee chairs and event leads will be in touch as the year begins, and we appreciate your flexibility and willingness to help out.

APS Requirements for ASFS Volunteers

Arlington Public Schools has a brand-new system this year to track the visitors and volunteers to our schools while also improving the security of our students.  APS policy states that all volunteers must complete this new application, no matter how long they’ve been volunteering.

All parents who want to chaperone school trips or volunteer in the classroom in any way must go through this application process.  It’s a simple, two-step process for the volunteers:

  1. Go to the APS Volunteer Application Process page and fill out the Arlington Public Schools online volunteer application.

  2. Volunteers will get an email from SafeSchools with a link to their mandatory, 35-minute  Sexual Misconduct training within 48 hours of applying to be a volunteer.  They will have two weeks to finish this online training.

Once they complete the training, their application will be approved within 48 hours, and they will be ready to volunteer. Approved applications will be good for 2 years.

Stacia Griffin is the Volunteer & Partnership Liaison for ASFS and will be the one shepherding applications through the process.  If you have any questions about the new system, please contact her at 703-228-7670 or stacia.griffin@apsva.us.
